On Sunday my dear friend Boychik came up from San Diego to visit and to introduce me to his new boyfriend. CuteFilmNerd and I ended up double-dating for the day, starting off eating at My Vegan in Pasadena (thanks to the aforelinked recommendation in Friend Polarbeast’s restarurant blog), then we hied over to The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens. We only had time for a brief overview of the gardens, which means that CuteFilmNerd and I will have to go back soon to see even more (and take even more photos). Mind you, I’ve been to the Huntington several times (my first time being a kamikaze film shoot in ‘92 with the filmmaker I was dating at the time [I also spent the day there with my dear friend Linda and my mom the first year Linda visited the U.S.]) , but it never stops being gorgeous. I’m sure there are still parts of it I still haven’t seen.
Naturally, I took photos, starting with the parking lot:

Here are my favorites (there are many):

And, of course, the narcissist and her honey:

(Obviously, I am putting my new-to-me camera to good use. Thank you again, Michelle!)

…aw crap, now it’s too short to climb.
Actually, my hair, while very long on occasion, has never been long enough to climb. And last Friday it got a little bit shorter:

I had 3-4 inches chopped off because I was tired of it being so, well, dead and frizzy. My hair went through a lot when I filmed the Dominck Dunne show in March (btw, it looks like my episode might air in September – I’ll keep my eyes open and let y’all know) and though I managed to keep it from being totally ruined when I stripped out the dark color and redyed it auburnish, it was still looking kinda sad. Plus it was just getting in my way whenever I’d bend down and was annoying the crap out of me. Mind you, it’s still long and getting in my way, but not as badly and not as annoyingly.
Of course, it no longer looks so smooth and shiny. That was the hairdresser’s work (done for the special occasion of taking my sweetie out for his birthday and showering him with tons of love, food and presents). I have no patience to spend time getting my hair looking so smooth, so this is how it looks now:

Not much different in style, but definitely shorter.
And just because, here’s CuteFilmNerd from Friday night:

Happy belated birthday, CuteFilmNerd! I love you!

In the past I’ve mentioned that I’m a bit on the hirsute side. It’s something I battle with, despite knowing that ultimately I will lose the war.
But since I’ve got an election on Sunday where I’ve got to look as good and professional as possible, I’ve decided to get my facial hair waxed on Saturday. Which means I’ve been letting that hair grow out for almost two weeks. And it’s driving me completely nuts.
I hate it. I hate it so much. I’m positive that small children are fleeing at the sight of me and animals are looking at me askance, whispering amongst themselves, “Girl needs a weed-whacker.” Even furries are thinking I have a hell of a costume.
Okay, maybe it’s not that bad, but coupled with the fact that my face has decided it’s time to break out in red neon blemishes, well, let’s just say I’m not feeling at my most attractive right now. Thank heavens HSTeacher hasn’t seemed to notice. Or, if he has, he doesn’t care a whit. ‘Cause the thought of having my boyfriend avoiding me until I’m somewhat less Sasquatch-y doens’t thrill me a heck of a lot.
Ooh, I can’t wait until Saturday…
